Man finds tooth in peanut

André Williams, STAR Writer

Snacking on peanuts will never be the same for a St Elizabeth resident, after he reportedly found a tooth while consuming the snack while at a bar recently.

Nashlyn Luton said he normally ate peanuts with his favourite beverage. But this pack left him shocked and the subject of ridicule after his friends discovered what he had almost ingested.

"I was at the bar in my community in Burnt Savannah, and I ordered the peanut, and I was playing dominoes, so I put the bag to my mouth. After reaching quarter of the amount in the bag, I felt something hard in my mouth, so I made a double chew to be sure."

Luton continued, "When I took it out and look at it, I spit out the rest that was in my mouth. My friends started laughing at me, say mi have man teeth ina mi mouth. mi put the teeth on the domino on the table, and I immediately took a picture. The following day, I went to the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC)."

THE STAR gathered that the CAC was contacted after attempts by Luton to have meaningful dialogue with the manufacturers of the peanut fell through.

"I called, dem push mi around at first ... then I was given a number to call someone. I spoke to a lady, and she asked me how I was going to prove that it was a tooth, and that they would come and collect it for testing. to date, nobody has contacted me," said Luton.

Luton said since he has taken his issue to the Consumers Affairs Commission branch in Mandeville, an investigation has seemingly began to take shape.

Luton told THE STAR, "I went there and they signed a document and sent it to the Bureau of Standards to a lab for testing. I was given a letter as proof that I gave them an object I found inside the peanut to test."

THE STAR was given a copy of the letter to peruse.

When the local distributors of the product were contacted, a senior representative confirmed that they were aware of the alleged discovery.

She said, "Yes we are aware ... we treat each customer fairly, and we don't leave complaints open ... We took the information, and normally we would ask for a sample ... We also attempted to extend a gift basket to him for having a bad experience, whether it is so or not ... he called back and said he didn't want our proposal, and that he was going to the authorities ..."
