Kingston Polo Club wins Hurlingham Championship
Kingston Polo Club crowned themselves the new champions of the Jamaica Polo Association Hi Goal Hurlingham championship when they defeated defending champions Chukka 13- 9 in the finals at the St Ann Polo Club on Saturday. Argentine top striker, Jorge Danovan, who is the leading striker in all tournaments, and also the Most Valuable Player (MVP) player in all three finals, scored 11 goals. Also on the scorecard was the in-form Rachel Turner with two goals. Contributing goals for the losers were Guillermo Macloughlin, with three and one each from Luke Clarke and John G Byles.The defending champions got a four-goal handicap which gave them a good start, but they were unable to sustain the lead with constant pressure from the hard-pressing Danovan, who outclassed them with some skillful polo which had the crowd buzzing with excitement. In the semi-finals, Kingston beat St Ann 9-6 to meet Chukka in the grand finals. Danovan and Clarke shared the MVP award. The winning pony title went to the John Byles-owned Pampita. |
