Tornadoes swim club for meet in Orlando

Twenty swimmers left Jamaica for Orlando, Florida, yesterday to participate in the three-day 2015 Highlander Long Course Invitational Swim Meet. The swimmers are accompanied by head coach, Wendy Lee.

The local swimmers participating in this meet age range in age from seven -16 years.

The Tornadoes swim club has maintained the tradition of including an overseas swim meet in its annual calendar of activities.

Coach Lee said "We feel the exposure to swimming with other children can only enhance the swimmers development. In the past the club has participated in meets in Cayman, Sarasota Florida, and Chicago."

Earlier this year, Tornadoes swimmers participated in the Sharks & Piranhas swim meet in Davie, Florida, where several swimmers posted personal best times and ranked in the top five.

The Annual Tornadoes Invitational Swim Meet will be held at the National Aquatic Centre May 8 to 10, and Lee said this overseas meet will help to prepare the Tornadoes swimmers for the season ahead.

The swimmers will return to the island on April 27.
