Bryan scores easy win at Kansas Relays |
|||||
![]() Ian Allen - Bryan LEIGHTON LEVY, STAR Writer IT was easy. Almost too easy for 2015 Carifta Games Under-20 High Jump champion Christoff Bryan, who cleared 2.24m for a 2015 outdoor season best to win the men's high jump at the 88th Kansas Relays in Lawrence last weekend. Bryan soared over a personal best 2.28m indoors, cleared the winning height on his third attempt and had three unsuccessful attempts at 2.27m, but by then, he was already the clear winner. The Kansas State University (KSU) freshman was far better than the field as the next best jumper was Kansas University senior Nic Giacana, who cleared 2.16m for second. Austin Hoag also of Kansas University was third with a clearance of 2.13m. "It was easy. I really didn't have that much competition. I just wanted to see where I am now, so I just went until I was out," said the proud winner, who revealed that his coach was not necessarily altogether happy with his execution. "I felt pretty good, but my coach said he didn't think I was good technically." Bryan, who has been overcoming a persistent knee injury since he arrived at KSU last fall, said his coach believes that if all goes well, he will have a good season. "He was saying that I am going to jump high this season once everything is fixed," he said. The win came on the heels of Bryan's fourth Carifta High Jump title earlier this month. In St Kitts he cleared 2.21m. Bryan said competing in St Kitts was also about having fun. "I went out at Carifta to have fun," he said. "I guess it just gave me a taste of jumping outdoors as I hadn't jumped
outdoors in a long time."
