WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man accused of stealing approximately $3 million is to have his case mentioned before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on May 6.

Owen Allen, contractor of a Barrett Hall address, is charged with fraudulent conversion.

When the case was mentioned in court recently, it was revealed that the prosecution had received a number of outstanding receipts, which will form part of its case against Allen once the matter goes to trial.

The case was subsequently set for mention on May 6, though trial dates were previously scheduled for July 29 and 30.

According to the allegations, sometime before February 2014, the female complainant, who had previously resided overseas, sent funds for Allen to buy a house for her. However, on her arrival in Jamaica, the complainant discovered that the house had not been bought, and Allen had reportedly used the money..

A report was made to the police. Allen was arrested and charged. However, it was not disclosed when the money had been sent to the defendant, or when he was arrested.
