CB Group cuts prices again

Christopher Serju, Star Writer

The Caribbean Broilers (CB) Group has announced a second round of price reductions since the start of the year, for chicken meat, pork, eggs and other products, effective Monday.

Livestock and poultry farmers will also benefit from the price reductions, which will also extend to all Nutramix brands of animal feeds.

The good news also extends to farmers, who will also see a price reduction on purchases of all Nutramix animal feeds.

In a news release on Wednesday, the company announced that the price of chicken will fall by $2.50 per kilogramme, the flagship fresh pork line Copperwood by $2.00 per kilogramme and its Grade-A egg brand Chippenham Eggs by $1 a dozen. The price of its line of Bad Dawg Sausages will also be reduced.

Meanwhile, in terms of the agriculture division, on average, the price of animal feeds will fall by $50 per bag or $2,000 per tonne.

Corporate Affairs Manager, Dr. Keith Amiel appealed to business operators to be sensitive to the economic situation and pass on these savings to their customers.

He explained that following a similar price cut in January, Caribbean Broilers saw it fit to pass on the savings from a further reduction in some key input costs on the international market, such as grains, to its customers.

"If you've been following the commodity markets, you'd realise that grains have been trending downwards which have allowed us to purchase our raw materials at better prices and this has in turn allowed us to pass savings on to the consumers," Dr. Amiel disclosed.

He further explained that, "When the markets are going north, we are forced to pass on the price increase to the market and so naturally, when things go the other way, its only right that we pass on the savings as well."
