Young dancehall sensation closes show in Sweden

Her popularity might not be soaring in Jamaica, but 12-year-old dancehall artiste, Baby Trish, recently had a major accomplishment when she closed Grammisgalan, a Swedish music award gala.

Trish performed at the show in late February with Swedish group Teddybears that she collaborated with in What's Your Problem. Although the song was recorded in 2012, it was finally released earlier this year and led to her performance of the song in front of thousands.

The soft-spoken youngster, who recently sat the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT), was rather excited about the achievement.

"It was wonderful because I have never been that far before. I was not nervous. It was a big crowd but I just pretend like it was one of the normal shows," said Baby Trish, who is part of her father's Bad Bull Productions.

Her father, Classical, added that Baby Trish T-shirts and other memorabilia were also on sale while they were in Sweden for the week.

He was also very pleased with his daughter's achievement.

"Mi neva expect it, but when mi travel so far and see the response from the crowd and everybody love her, mi seh 'Yeah, this mi like - the international market'," he told THE STAR.

The trip was not only about her performance, as she also recorded Iszim Skism and Money with the Teddybears. She is also working on an album.

Classical is also very active in his career, having released a movie, Hill Top Massacre, which he says is a "Jamaican movie about my lifestyle, filmed in Bull Bay".

He added that his group Bad Bull Family - comprising Baby Trish, Likkle D, Esha, Candlelight, Fyah Blaze, Hi Tech and War Man, has been doing well.
