Defending Red Stripe Premier League champions Montego Bay United (MBU) are looking forward to retaining their local title as well winning the upcoming Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, under recently appointed head coach, Dr Dean Weatherley.

Owner of MBU, Orville Powell again hired Dr Weatherley following the sacking of Spanish coach, Carlos Garcia on Monday.

"We have expectations when we hired Garcia, but the team continued to be normal. If we have an overseas coach, more is expected. We had given Garcia enough time, and as the whole of Jamaica can see it is the same we are not above last year," Powell told STAR Sports yesterday.

Powell pointed out that Dr Weatherley is in charge of Cornwall College in the daCosta Cup and also is a qualified dentist, so he could not start the season.

"The aim is for the club to win the remaining games in the premier league and successfully defend the title. We know that Arnett will end on most points, so we want to see the full potential of the team in the coming weeks," he shared.

With the RSPL taking a three-week break to facilitate MBUFC and Waterhouse competing in the CFU Club Championship.

While, Arnett and Waterhouse are already safely through to the two-way semi-finals scheduled on May 3 and 10, MBUFC and Humble Lion are highly favoured for the remaining positions.

MBUFC is scheduled to leave the island tomorrow to participate in the 2015 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship in Las Cayes, Haiti.

Powell said that although his club does not know about the opponents in the group stage of the CFU Club Championship, the aim is to win the group and go on to capture the title.

"We aim to win the CFU and advance to the CONCACAF championship," he said.

MBUFC's team roster for the CFU was not ready, but players such as Jacomena Barrett, captain Dwayne Amburseley, Dino Williams, Jermaine Woozencroft, Bahamian Lesly St Fleur, Fabian McCarthy and Allan Ottey are expected to make the trip.

The team will open against Guadeloupe's 11-time national champion CS Moulien on April 15; tackle America de Cayes on April 17 and close the group against Excelsior on April 19.

The winners in the four groups will advance to the semi-finals on May 22. The final is scheduled for May 24 at a venue to be decided. Jamaica's other representative, Waterhouse FC will play in Group Two alongside hosts W Connection of Trinidad and Tobago; SAP and Guyana Defence Force.
