Weatherley to rescue Mobay again

DR Dean Weatherley is a natural replacement for sacked Spanish coach Carlos Garcia Sanz at Montego Bay United Football Club, according to team manager, Gareth Pickering.

Garcia Sanz was fired by the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) title holders on Tuesday.

Pickering STAR Sports that Weatherley is the right choice because of his close affiliation and knowledge of the club.

"He has always been a part of the club, so I think it's the natural way to go. He is a very busy person, but he is always around the club and he never misses our games, and we are all Montegonians, so I believe it's the natural way to go," Pickering said.

Sanz took over last June from Weatherley, who led the club to its first Premier League title a few months earlier. Sanz was hired after Donovan Duckie was relieved of his duties mid the last campaign.

Club chairman Orville Powell said the club hoped Sanz would have taken them to the next level, but it just wasn't happening hence the termination of his contract.

MBUFC are a point away from qualifying from the semi-finals with two rounds of games to go, but they lost a glorious opportunity to seal their berth and return to second in the table on Sunday when they were beaten 2-1 by Cavalier. Pickering pointed out that Weatherley is very intimate with the club - from its Seba days.
