A Jamaican man residing in the United States, accused of scamming the elderly via telephone, was sentenced to prison for his involvement in the scheme, THE WEEKEND STAR has learnt.

Mikhail Gorbachev George Williams, 26, of a Broward County, Florida, address, was previously charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and running an unlicensed money transmitting business.

last Monday, he was sentenced to 71 months' imprisonment. He was ordered to three years of supervised release after the duration of his sentence.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that Williams was part of a scheme that involved calling elderly victims, informing them that they had won a lottery or sweepstakes.

It is believed the victims were told that in order to claim their winnings, they first had to pay taxes, duties or fees.
