Hilary Duff was "too thin" when she was a teenager.

The Younger star is at a healthy weight now, but says she went through a period in her life when she was "obsessed" about being super skinny" like her friends.

"I was too thin. That was not a healthy place for me. I was so unhappy.

"I remember my hands cramping because I wasn't getting enough nutrients.

"A lot of girls my age were super skinny. I think it's just as bad now, but it's more normal. It's crazy. I can't be that way. It's not my normal state." Duff said.

confident

But the mother of three-year-old Luca has insisted she is glad she isn't worried about her weight anymore and feels confident in her figure again.

She said in People magazine: "Things don't bounce back the way they used to, but I don't need to be 110 lbs. I'm a 27-year-old mother. I feel fit and strong and happy."

Meanwhile, Hilary recently insisted she is "not concerned" about her weight and would rather focus on her fitness levels and general wellbeing.

She said: "I'm not a model; I'm an actress. I always feel like I'm in the five to 10 pound struggle, but my life is so busy. I'm just not that concerned, really.

perfectly happy

"I'm normal and I'm perfectly happy being that way. Some weeks I'm like, 'Man, my clothes are fitting so good' and then some weeks I'm like, 'I need to cut back on a few things,' but that's it. I don't fall into the trap."
