Tsetsi 'Lights Out' Davis, who claimed the runner-up spot in last year's Wray and Nephew Contender show, begins his bid for the 2015 title tonight when he takes on Christopher 'Shaka' Henry from Barbados, in the fourth contest of this year's preliminary round at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium on Old Hope Road. Fight time is 9:30 p.m.

There will also be two amateur bouts, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Sixteen boxers, eight from Jamaica and eight from other Caribbean territories - Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname - are vying for the title of Wray and Nephew Middleweight Contender 2015, and prize money of $2 million for first, $500,000 for second, $250,000 for third and $200,000 for fourth.

There are eight fights in the preliminary round over six rounds each, the quarter-finals will also be over six rounds, the two semi-finals will be eight-round contests and the finals will be over 10 rounds.

Henry is a wily veteran, with 50 fights on his record and he has already participated in the series as a welterweight, bowing out in the quarter-finals last year, in a loss to Donovan 'Police' Campbell.

Also, he has 25 wins and 25 losses in a career that started in 1994 and he has held two regional titles, the WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) welterweight and super welterweight titles. He is a good boxer/fighter and his intriguing record shows that he has scored 18 knockouts and in turn has been knocked out 14 times.

Davis has had 15 fights, winning 12 and has shown his resilience over the years. He has fought in the Contender Series as both a welterweight and a middleweight, but is more comfortable as a middleweight because he walks around at just over 160 pounds, which is the middleweight limit.

He has been working hard for this year's contest as he was displeased with his runner-up finish last year.

"I am coming to win this year and nobody is going to stand in my way," he told STAR Sports.

Even though he took this fight at short notice, Henry has declared that he is in good condition as he was preparing for a fight next month. It promises to be a good boxing match and Davis the showman will undoubtedly be trying to make an early statement to the other boxers in the competition.
