There is a shift in focus of the West Indies/Sagicor High Performance Centre, according to West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) director of cricket Richard Pybus.

The centre no longer focuses on registering a cohort and working on a year-round basis, but instead is now being used to provide the finishing touch.

"We need to discriminate between High Performance Centre and High Performance Programme," Pybus, who was in Jamaica for the board's AGM recently, pointed out.

"The staff is still based in Barbados, but we no longer have a cohort because we are now looking to the franchises to developing that talent.

"What we are doing from a High Performance Programme perspective is that we are identifying our elite emerging talent, and we are managing those players.

"There is now a double-round four-day cricket. We have the Super50, and there is a period off at the end of the season."

"They have the CPL T20 following which they will return to their first-class set-ups."

The HPC, which formerly hosted players in batches, with a graduation at the head, is currently being headed by Englishman, Graeme West.

He also has on his coaching roster former West Indies players Robert Samuels and Vasbert Drakes, along with former Jamaica wicketkeeper, and current West Indies assistant coach, Andre Coley.

New West Indies one-day captain Jason Holder, Test opener Kraigg Brathwaite and West Indies World Cup squad fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell are notable graduates of the centre.
