STUDENTS RAPED, ROBBED NEAR SCHOOL |
|||||
Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter Students at an institution in central Jamaica are expressing concerns about their safety after female students at the school were reportedly sexually assaulted and male students robbed near the campus last week. These incidents are believed to have happened at the back gate of the institution. The institution's student representative confirmed the incidents. "I am not aware of the specifics of the incident. I do know that very recently, two female students have been raped," he said in relation to the sexual assault. In relation to the robbery of the male students, he said, "I am aware of one of them. It occurred last Wednesday night. The students recounted that it was at gun point at the window of a student's room. At certain points in the year, the community is of concern, but on campus, it is really safe," the student representative said. "To help clarify things, the incidents did not happen at the school gate itself, but we use that to refer to a community behind the school," he said. When officials from the institution's public-relations department were contacted, they could not confirm whether these incidents took place. When contacted, the Manchester police could not confirm if reports were made on either of these incidents. |
