We must be faithful and committed to God

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

CHURCH YOU ATTEND: Ebenezer and Beulah Circuit of Baptist Churches in Clarendon.

POSITION IN THE CHURCH: Pastor

HOW LONG SINCE BEING SAVED: I have been saved for over 30 years.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOMENT OF CONVICTION: I was brought up in the church. My father and mother brought me up in what is called a nuclear family by Christian parents. My siblings and I all had to go to church; it was compulsory. We used to attend a small rural Baptist Church in St. Mary. We were very poor, but we were very God-fearing people.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SINCE BEING SAVED: When I joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force, I heard and saw things which frightened me, and I went astray for a short period. There was a certain culture shock for me, who was coming from a rural parish to Kingston. That, I was unable to deal with, and that was the most challenging thing for me while I tried to stay focused as a Christian. I gravitated towards the negatives, but thank God He brought me back.

MOST MIRACULOUS MOMENT SINCE BEING SAVED: I remember being sick and went to the Mandeville Hospital, and I had a brief moment with the Lord. In fact, that was when I really got my call to be in ministry. I started to pray for people in the hospital at the time, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, and people got their healing. A gentleman who was not talking just started to praise God. Several other things happened as well. I felt the power of God, and I said to the other patients that I was going to leave that same morning, and I was discharged. I had no doubt that I was called into ministry.

MESSAGE TO CHRISTIANS: Be honest. As a Christian, you will be faced with a lot of challenges - at your work place and wherever you are. These are going to cause you to want to compromise your faith, but you must be faithful and committed to God. We are living in a time when we are being asked to accept all kinds of things, but you cannot bow. You have to remember that with God all things are possible. Live with honesty and integrity, and try to remain who God wants us to be, despite the challenges being faced.

MESSAGE TO NON-CHRISTIANS: Recognize that even though you are not a Christian, God loves you and wants you to change your ways. He will receive you just as you are.

FAVOURITE BIBLE SCRIPTURES: 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Philippians 4:13.

YOUR FAVOURITE SONG: 'Just as I am without one plea'.
