Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer Three security guards charged with the larceny of money from Guardsman were freed by the court on Tuesday. Those freed are Garry Cowans, Michael Whittingham and Junior Williams. When the matter came up in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, attorneys-at-law Barrington Frankson and Courtney Maxwell successfully applied for the matter to be dismissed for want of prosecution. The court was told that the matter was on the mention list from October 1, 2013 with no statements from the complainants whose money went missing. There were no answers for personnel from Guardsman when the police called. Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix then concluded the matter and said she was in agreement with the defence's submission that the matter cannot be prosecuted without the outstanding statements. The three accused were then told that they were free to go. Allegations are that, on the day in question, the three men went to Portmore, St Catherine to collect lodgements. The driver, Cowans, realised that bags of the money totalling $12 million were missing from the vehicle. Report made A report was made and the men taken into custody. An investigation was launched by Detective Corporal Keith Scully, which resulted in the trio being charged with larceny. They have made numerous court appearances and have maintained their innocence throughout. Since the matter is undetermined on its merit, it can be brought back before the court if the
witnesses turn up.
This bike man was seen riding on the wrong side of the roadway along Twickenham Park on Monday. |
