With God, there is always a way

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Name: Fredel Smith

Church: Alston Seventh-Day Adventist in Clarendon

Position in church: Deacon

How long have you been saved? I have been saved for 22 years

Your moment of conviction: My conviction came about when I was in police training school and my roommate, who was an Adventist, used to conduct daily devotions, mornings and evenings. Sometimes we were forced to join him. That kind of attitude on his part on a daily basis throughout our training was what impacted me; hence my acceptance of the Adventist message.

Most challenging moment since being saved: My most challenging moments are when I have to carry out my duties as a police officer. As a sergeant and a police officer, I have to go to places that are not consistent with Christian principles. For example night clubs, bars and places like those. As such, I have to strike a balance between the principles in which I believe and my job as a police officer.

Most miraculous moment since being saved: Anything I set out to do, with the help of God, they have always come through. I do not depend on my own strength; I depend on the help of God, who gives me the strength.

Message to Christians: Hold fast until Christ comes. It does not matter the assets you have in life, the luxurious living you enjoy, or it does not matter the kind of job you have. at the end of the day, it is your relationship with Christ that matters most.

Message to non-Christians: I want to appeal to you that you need to accept Jesus. His second coming is nearer than when we first believed. A lot of things are happening. Signs and wonders are all around us. If you look in some foreign lands, you see where certain groups are executing people; like the ISIS group and the Islamic militants; and all of this has to happen before the end comes. We were mandated to carry out the great commission to preach and teach and baptise people in the name of the Father. He has promised that He will be with us until the end comes. So the end is imminent now.

Favourite scripture: St Matthew 5:16

Favourite song: 'What a friend we have in Jesus'
