Javon Francis returns to Gibson as a senior

file - Javon Francis winning his heat of the men's 400 metres in 46.29 seconds at the Camperdown Classic held at the National Stadium recently.

Javon Francis, the 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships 4x400m silver medal anchor, will return to the Gibson McCook stage as a senior tomorrow.

Francis closed his high school career in record style as part of Calabar High's record setting teams in the class one 4x100m and open 4x400m last year.

Francis will line up for the Akan Track Club in the 4x400m for clubs and institutions. After opening the season with 46.29 at the Camperdown Classic, Francis will be hoping to improve his race performance.

He will look to continue regaining his form which saw Jamaicans heap praises on him for transporting the baton from fifth to second in the 4x400m final at the Moscow World Championships.

"I am feeling good and looking forward to the meet. This time around, I will be running for my club in the relay and I will be up to my usual transporting duties, delivering the baton home," said Francis.

"It has been a long road back from the injury I picked up at the end of last season. I have to give great credit to my coach Michael Clarke and my training partners at Akan who have all been very supportive of my rehabilitation and return to the track.

So it is now up to me to repay the faith and patience they have shown by working hard and doing my best every time I take the track," he concluded.

Francis burst on to the international stage with a special performance at the Moscow World Championships in 2013.

He then returned to gain even more attention as he outclassed the field in the final of the class one boys 400m final where he pulverised Usain Bolt's record of 45.43, stopping the clock at 45 seconds flat.

Francis' 2014 season came to an abrupt end due to injury, and track and field fans locally and internationally will be zoned in on the young star for 2015 hoping he can rediscover his blistering form.
