Cruise ship visitor robbed in Falmouth

Richard Morais, Star Writer
FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

Condemnation is being heaped on the attacker who robbed a cruise ship visitor in Falmouth on Wednesday. Mayor of Falmouth, in condemning the incident, said, "This is the second such occurrence in the town since ships start arriving in March 2011."

He said that part of the safety is the elaborate security with undercover officers that the average persons don't even know about. He, however, emphasised that the citizenry of Falmouth have committed to protecting the visitors and that is one of the most important thing. He said that on any given ship day persons can be seen traversing the town and not just the popular areas but almost everywhere.

Falmouth Art & Craft Association president, Evadne Brown, has also condemned the act. She said that her members go beyond just selling to make the visitors welcomed. She added that she has left her stall to assure visitors that Falmouth is safe.

Police reports are that the victim was walking just outside the business district when he was pounced upon by the attacker. During a tussle, the tourist's hand got injured allowing the attacker to escape on foot with the visitor's bag.

The police, who is yet to make an arrest in the robbery, are being supported by many residents who are angered by the attack.

Residents said if an alarm was raised, vigilante justice would have been exacted on the alleged criminal.
