Star$truck Records launches 50/50 album

File - Iba Mahr

Kingston music outfit Star$truck Records is set to start 2015 in a big way with the launch of a reggae compilation album dubbed '50/50'.

Coming out of an alliance between Star$truck Records and Di Kru Productions, the 50/50 album compilation features a healthy mix of 13 reggae veterans and fast rising newcomers.

Fast out the blocks is Exco Levi with What A Day and Teko with I'm A Rebel. There is also Edge Michael on Simple Way Of Life, Bling with Want More, Chaka Demus & Pliers resurges on Tek It In and Taffy laments Part Time Lover.

The album also features Iba MaHr on 50/50 Love followed by Esco's Hooked On You, Shanhill's Butterflies, Louie Culture's Love's Got A Hold On Me, Hezron's Can't Get Enough,Nadine Sutherland's Who's Gonna Love Me and I-Candy's Champion.

Laced over an appropriate reggae base line and complimented by the addictive repetitive strumming of a rhythm guitar, 50/50 is balanced in its offering of grounded, mellow and easy-going reggae music. The album reflects the eclectic approach to Jamaican music by Star$truck, which last year made waves with Bounty Killer and Beenie Man's Legendary track.

Co-producer Delmar Drummond, happy with the balance of youth and experience on the album, said: "It is really good to hear Louie Culture on the track along with younger artistes like Iba MaHr. I-Candy and Shanhill also hold their own with really solid knocks and Esco shows his other side; actually singing reggae. We will definitely make waves this year with this project".

The album will be launched tomorrow at Star$truck Galaxy, 28 Derrymore Road in St Andrew. The event will feature live performances from a number of the artistes.
