taxi operator allegedly knocks policeman off bike

A taxi operator is being sought by the police for allegedly knocking a cop off his bike on Dumfries Road near the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

The incident unfolded shortly after 4 p.m., last Thursday.

According to eyewitness accounts, a policeman on a motorcycle intercepted a vehicle purportedly operating as an illegal taxi. Following the intercept, the cop is alleged to have been hit from the motorcycle, which prompted him to fire shots at the taxi operator, who had two children in the vehicle.

"Mi hear a one shot fire, and mi go outside deh go look," said a witness.

"Mi get fi understand say is a white-plate taxi the police did a try stop and the driver lick him offa di bike. The driver run out a di car and the police fire di shot after him."

It is believed the driver of the vehicle made his getaway from the scene.

None of the children were injured.

"Some simple things weh mi see the police do. Mi woulda take him off a front-line duty. A raise him fi go raise two fowl. A two little girl mi see the Transport Authority people dem take outa the car," another alleged eyewitness told THE STAR, seemingly outraged by the incident.

INDECOM confirmed the incident and has launched an investigation. INDECOM is also trying to locate the police and taximan involved.
