SCA's Stewart's job in jeopardy

The job of Sporting Central Academy (SCA) coach Nigel Stewart is under review as the Clarendon club dropped into the relegation zone in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) football competition.

SCA was swamped 4-0 by Waterhouse at home in Juici Park last Sunday. That result sent the team to 11th position in the 12-team league, on 21 points, the same as Reno. However, Reno has a better goal difference. Barbican sits at the bottom on 20 points.

At the end of the preliminary stage in April, the two bottom-place teams will be relegated.

"His (Stewart) job is under review. He will not be fired, but could be placed in a different position within the club," SCA president, Ainsley Lowe, told STAR Sports yesterday.

"We will decide on the coaching position by next week," he added. SCA have not won in seven games, last tasting victory on December 22 in a 2-0 win over Barbican.

During the RSPL second transfer window, which closed last week, Sporting topped the list with the acquisition of 15 players.

"We brought in players for different reasons. Four of those players were acquired to boost the squad," Lowe explained.

Lowe believes the team can finish above the relegation zone. "The aim is to win the remaining 11 games in the third round. That would put us on 54 points."

Sporting's next game is against RSPL leaders Arnett Gardens, but Lowe is confident of winning at Juici Park tomorrow.

Despite the wide gap in points, both teams have won a game apiece in two meetings this season. In the first meeting at Juici Park on October 26, Sporting won 3-2 and Arnett won 2-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on January 11.

Not afraid

"We don't fear Arnett, as we have beaten them many times in the past seasons. We are not afraid of the big teams, it is the small teams that we are mostly beaten, " Lowe said

During the transfer window, Sporting lost long-time players Francois Swaby on loan, and Gregory Lewis and Kevon Reid to parish rivals Humble Lion.
