UTech warms up for Intercol with superb show at Jamalco |

RAYMOND GRAHAM, STAR Writer University of Technology (UTech) athletes warmed up for the upcoming Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships with good all-round performances at last Saturday's well-supported Jamalco Development Meet at the Jamalco Sports Club in Clarendon. Christania Williams was one of several outstanding performers. The former Edwin Allen standout, who is looking to break out as a senior this season, clocked the fastest 200m, winning in 23.90 seconds. Teammates Shimayra Williams (24.15) and Tjipekapora Herunga (24.33) closed off the top three here. UTech also topped the women's 100m, as Williams won in 11.92 seconds, with teammates Donya Ewers (12.31) and Chanice Bonner (12.33) seconds, finishing second and third, respectively. GC Foster College females dominated the 400m. Yvonna Grant had the fastest time of the day with 56.96 seconds, with her teammates, Samantha Curtis (57.81) and Renea Ambersley (57.86), second and third overall. UTech men were also dominant, controlling both the 100m and 200m. Former Jamaica College sprinter Kavean Smith led the way in the 100m after winning overall in 10.57 seconds. His teammate, Shernyl Burns (10.82) was second and MVP Track Club's Ramone Barnswell third in 10.83 seconds. In the half-lap event, Tyquendo Tracy came out on top after winning his heat in 21.23 seconds. Hitjivirue Kaanjuka (21.32) was second best and Nicholas Watson of MVP Track Club taking third in 21.48 seconds. |
