Favourites Portmore and Tru-Juice meet in St Catherine mid-season final

LIVINGSTON SCOTT, STAR Writer

Tru-Juice and title favourites Portmore United will meet in today's mid-season final of the St Catherine Major League at the Prison Oval starting at 6:00 p.m.

This will be preceded by the Division one final between Federal United and Dunbeholden at 4:00.pm.

Tru-Juice advanced to the final after defeating Frazisers Whip 3-2 in their final first round game on Tuesday.

They secured goals from Keneel Butler (20), Odean Edwards (51), and Renard Campbell (55).

Devon Francis (24) and Mark Walters (93) scored for Frazisers. Tru-Juice's technical director, Julius Thompson, said Portmore are the only team to beat them this season and although he anticipates a very difficult contest.

"We have to improve our finishing and retain ball possession better, and those are the two aspects of our game that we are looking the most to, but we are ready for Portmore," he said.

Tru-Juice will look to the competition's leading scorer in Gawayne Smith, who has netted eight times already this season.

Portmore defeated Tru-Juice 1-0 in their first round meeting and coach Linval Dixon is confident they can repeat.

"They will be coming to beat us, but we will be ready for the challenge. We are going there to perform even better than the last time we played them," he said.

One of the key players in Portmore's season, Levaughn Williams, moved to Humble Lion in the transfer window, and although Dixon says he has been missed, admits young players have stepped up.

Tru-Juice finished the round with 18 points from seven matches, two in front of Portmore who has played a game less and can still finish top with a win in their final game against Old Harbour Bay United.
