Fancy D fully focused on career

Fancy D is determined to use positive music and carve his own niche in the musical arena.

Born Donovan Nelson, he is aware that there are other talented artistes out there like himself with the same agenda, but he is convinced that if he knocks long enough, the door of success will open for him.

Fancy D recently released his latest recording, Don't Worry, which is available on e-outlets. He is working on his debut album to be be released early this year. The album yet to be titled is a mixture of pop, lovers' rock, reggae and gospel.

"For my debut album, I want it to make a statement. So I am going all out on this one, making the tracks lively and inspirational," the singjay said.

Fancy D, who hails from Grange Hill, Westmoreland and is a past student of Rusea's High School, said he aims to "stand out from the pack of other hopefuls by delivering simple reality songs with the right blend of imagination and unpredictability."

Now in his late 30s, he recorded his first song in 1991, a cover of Whitney Houston's One Moment in Time, which he produced. That experience opened his eyes that he needed to learn much more about the industry he found himself in.

"I realised that the industry was very complex and unforgiving and the importance that promotion played," he said.

"I am fully focused now, and ready to make an impression."

Among his recordings are Don't Drink and Drive, If I Knew, True Love Don't Come Easy and Mama You Are a Blessing.
