Sex shops gear up for movie release |
|||||
Davina Henry, Staff Reporter Sex toy retailers have been stockpiling bondage gear ahead of the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie release, slated for Valentine's Day. The film, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, is based on the book trilogy by E.L. James. It follows the relationship between graduate Anastasia Steele and successful businessman Christian Grey, who introduces her to the world of S&M and role play. With this in mind, owners and operators of adult novelty stores say they are hoping that couples will be inspired by the bondage-type antics of the main character. Sade, who operates the Fetish Secretz Adult Novelty store, located at Hillview Avenue, told THE WEEKEND STAR that she has experienced an increase in sales since the beginning of February. "We've been getting in new stock, especially handcuffs, masks and ties. We've seen an increase in sales since the start of the month and I'm definitely expecting more sales with the release of the film," she stated. The store will also be having a massive 30 per cent off sale on all Fifty Shades of Grey items. "All of the toys and accessories that were used in the book will be on sale. This includes floggers, paddles, whips and Ben Wa balls. We'll also be hosting a 'Sip and Shop' on Valentine's Day." Similarly, Entice Intimate Boutique, located in Orchid Village, stated that they too would be having a 'Shades of Grey' special. "We've brought in extra toys to ensure that we have enough because we are expecting a great demand. From what I've been hearing, I know that we'll be seeing an increase in sales. So, from Thursday to Saturday, we'll be having a special on sex toys," the store manager, Kimone, told THE WEEKEND STAR. PlayHouse Jamaica, a virtual adult novelty store has also increased the amount of bondage toys they stock. "Well, from the book itself came out, we've decided to start carrying additional toys due to requests. More people have been asking about Ben Wa balls & bed restraints. With the upcoming movie release, we have stepped up stock in anticipation, coupled with the fact that it's Valentine's Day. When we started bondage toys were very rare. Now, people are making reference to the book with regards to toys, so with the visuals of a movie I'm anticipating a greater rush for toys," Mr. PlayHouse stated. |
