Meet director's thoughts

Flashback to 2014: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (left) anchors MVP to a resounding win over UTech in the 4x100m at last year's Milo Western Relays. Fraser-Pryce received the Keys to the City of Montego Bay at the same meet, during the opening ceremony. She willl be at this year's meet to do it all over again.

Last year, a sudden increase in entries resulted in us having to run 10 more races than were run the year before. The result was the unusual situation of our meet running into overtime by 18 minutes.

As a result of the now revised schedule, our last race is set for 9:50 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m.

The later finish will create some inconvenience, but we feel it is our best option. When we tried an earlier start, many teams found it difficult to be on time, and often missed some of their races. Our team of officials, led by meeting managers Tony Myers and T.C. Campbell, are able to get our races off at an amazing rate. Our mission is to get as many athletes as possible to compete at Milo Western Relays.

More entries mean more races and, despite our best efforts, more races require more time.

Every year, MVP brings some of the world's greatest athletes to perform in Montego Bay at the Milo Western Relays.

We are thrilled that we are able to honour as patron, Mr Paul Francis, one of the 'cornerstones' of MVP. He now wears the hat of head coach of UTech. If last year's performance is anything to judge by, we can expect quite a show from UTech at Milo Western Relays 2015.

We congratulate coach Francis on his wonderful achievements. We thank him for his support of the Milo Western Relays and we wish him continued success as he continues to play a vital role in the development of Jamaica's track and field.

We would like to say a big thank you to Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission for participating in Milo Western Relays by setting up their information booth at the meet.

We could not ask for a better partner than Milo as we continue our mission to assist in the development of track and field in western Jamaica.
