The St James Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has identified priorities on which its members will be working during this year.

Head of the division, Superintendent Derrick Champagnie, told a news conference in Montego Bay on Friday, that included in the priority areas are the reduction of serious crimes, especially murders; shootings, fatal accidents; anti-lotto scamming; hot-spot operational activities; citizen partnerships, through community integration; safe custody of prisoners; execution of warrants; and inspections and visits.

He said the division has the reduction of serious crimes as its number one priority, and will be working with community stakeholders to achieve that goal.

The St James Community Safety Branch has been holding a number of meetings in communities across the parish, aimed at sensitising the residents about the work of the olice, as well as to educate them on their role in the fight against crime and violence.

So far, meetings have been held in Mount Salem, Montego Hills, Barnett Street, Granville and Anchovy.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Champagnie lauded members of the force under his command for the high level of professionalism with which they carry out their duties.

"The level of professionalism that has been displayed by our men and women is commendable. We are getting more commendation than condemnation within the past two years, and we want to maintain that in order to forge that working and effective working relationship with the citizens of St James and, by extension, the county of Cornwall," he said.
