Roots reggae singer Khalilah Rose has welcomed 2015 with the release of thePushAYute Records-produced'New World',a striking account of how she learned to manoeuvre the reggae industry in spite of negative reactions.

After creating a buzz with singles Your Eyes and the Dean Fraser-produced Weep Not, and also appearing as special guest at the Kaduna Peace Seminar in Nigeria last year, Rose took a break from the scene to re-evaluate her unwavering position as a Rastafari woman.

"Most times when I write music, I write for the masses, but New World was very personal. After releasing debut album,Zion's Lullaby, those who once supported me started to scandalise meand I had a hard time dealing with that. A female promoter felt that my no-make-upRasta look was not appealing, and this was very hurtful coming from a sister with locks. All this made me break away from the reggae circle. Ganja, loved ones, and the Most High helped merealise my strength and divinity, and all of this is evoked in the new single," she said.

regular airplay

New World is already playing regularly on radio stations in Hawaii, Nigeria, and Aruba. New York's Hot 97 FM request line showed up with the song within the first week of it being released, and BBC 1Xtra has added it to its catalogue.

Rose's local management (led by Trevieno Cole of Pawtycentral.com)is campaigning islandwide to get the single on the airwaves and to the speaker box of the people.
