SHAYNE FAIRMAN, STAR Writer Josheph Clarke, who is the country's only internationally certified badminton referee, is hoping to bank on experience and passion for the game, as he seeks to carry out his vice-president mandate at the Jamaica Badminton Association and grow the sport. Doubles Mania is scheduled for the Constant Spring Golf Club's Racquet Complex in St Andrew. Action is scheduled to serve off at 9a.m. and continue tomorrow, where the finals are scheduled to commence at 3pm. Clarke said his focus is on planning and hosting local tournaments like today's JBA Doubles Mania, "well." Action will get underway in four divisions, inclusive of: division A for international representatives, B top juniors, C club level participants, while D is for beginners. First competition "Our players will get a chance to brush up/improve, as it will be a good test for everybody to participate and see where they are at competitively," Clarke explained. "We are expecting a lot of juniors to test themselves against seniors today, and get ideal preparation for our Jamaica International Championships in March," he added. Doubles mania is the first competitive fixture of 2015, and will see the youthful exuberance of juniors clashing with the experience of their seniors. There will be open division competition, and action-packed open mixed doubles also. Intense rivalries and heated competition can be expected over two days, as competitors will give their all to make the national team for March's Jamaica International Championships. In March, Jamaica will play host to an internationally acclaimed Jamaica International Championship at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at the University of Technology. It will get underway from March 19-22, and takes on a level-four international event format. Level four competition enables Pan American players to gain crucial Olympic-qualifying points.
