International superstar Mariah Carey recently delivered a substandard performance at the 19th Annual Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival at the Trelawny Stadium, Falmouth, on the weekend.

Carey, the headline act for the festival, has received many awards and accolades in recognition of her worldwide success in the music industry, including five Grammy Awards.

However, while performing in Jamaica, Carey, 44, was caught on video lip-syncing to Fantasy and not able to keep up with her own lyrics.

In the aftermath of her performance, several international media including ABC, CNN, TMZ, USA Today, Billboard, and World Star Hip Hop among others have reported on the issue, labelling the episode as an embarrassment.

Small island

Today, THE STAR, with its new feature, The People's Opinion, asked a member of the public what he thought about the matter. And for Lionel Williams, she took advantage of the situation that Jamaica is a small island, a small country.

"She nuh really have to come out and say she ago put out her best. She just say is a small show more or less, so she ago just capitalise on the fact say this is just a small cash for instance and give dem a little something of Mariah Carey not everything ... probably in her mind we nuh deserve it ... she never see it relevant," said Williams.

He also told THE STAR that Mariah Carey basically did not show respect to Jamaicans.

Stay tuned for next week's segment of the People's Opinion, where the public voice their sentiments on varying topical issues.
