MARC STAMP, STAR Writer BARBICAN ousted defending champions Harbour View in the KSAFA/Jackie Bell Knockout competition following a 2-0 win in the semi-final at Waterhouse Stadium in Drewsland, yesterday. Surprise team Barbican continued their recent good form against the 'Stars of the East' with a shock 2-0 win over the more fancied Harbour View in the first of the semi-final double-header. Lennox Russell netted in the 60th minute and Charlie Smith High schoolboy star Bebeto McDonald (88th) sealed the deal. In the second semi-final, Waterhouse blanked Boys' Town 3-0 courtesy of goals by Romario 'Rum Rum' Campbell in the 64th minute, veteran striker Jermaine 'Tuffy' Anderson (66th), and Juvaune Benjamin (80th).. Boys' Town received an early setback when Hugh Evans was red-carded by referee Courtney Campbell in the 13th minute. Both winners will meet in the final at a date to be announced. Barbican, showed their recent win against Harbour View in the Red Stripe Premier League was no fluke. Since taking orders from veteran coach, Marvin Tate, they looked a better-organised team. They controlled midfield through Andrew Christie, Dean Phillips, and Keno Simpson, but there was no clear cut chance. Barbican stepped up the tempo in the second half, and went ahead courtesy of a neat finish by Russell, who beat Harbour View's goalkeeper Levor Williams. Harbour View introduced midfield maestro Jermaine Hue, but the former national representative looked match rusty, in his first game back from suspension by the Jamaica Football Federation. Tate was satisfied with his team's performance. "Our players have been training hard and were very disciplined. It was a professional approach from the players," Tate told STAR Sports. Harbour View's coach, Andrew Hines, was disappointed with his team's poor performance. "We just did not show up. Barbican did their best and got the desired result, " Hines said. |
