![]() Roach Twenty-four-year-old Kimmari Roach, who was part of Jamaica's 4x100m men's team which won gold in a Commonwealth Games record in Glasgow, Scotland, last year, is confident a change from the University of Technology-based MVP Track Club to Racers will see his career take off internationally. Team Jamaica's men stopped the clock at a scintillating 37.58 seconds, to record a new Commonwealth record. Roach and his 4x100m team members received medals in the team award section. The members of the team were Jason Livermore, Kemar Bailey-Cole, Nickel Ashmeade, Usain Bolt, Julian Forte and Roach. "It's a great feeling training with the best (Racers). it will bring out the best in me, and coach Glen Mills will help my career reach the next level," Roach told STAR Sports. He added that he is not at his best, on the mend from a quad injury. best to come "My best is yet to come and, with Racers, I will be going for sub-10-second times and pushing to win gold medals at the highest level," he reasoned. Last year, Roach made it to the 60m men's final at the World Indoor Championships in Poland, but only managed a disappointing eighth place. "I was looking forward to medalling, because I had one of the top four times going into the final," he said. "I even beat Nesta Carter in qualifying, but in the final, the gun threw me off," he continued, noting that the experience and exposure were good for him. Roach started his track career at Jamaica College, where he had relative success at the Boys and Girls' Championships, with two medals won at that level. He maintains he never took athletics seriously until his move to MVP track club helped to change his outlook on the sport, and now eyes the big times with Racers. - S.F.
