Fifty-eight children arrested in Trelawny last year

The Trelawny police are expressing concern about the number of children being arrested and charged for crimes in the parish.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Ministry of Education at the William Knibb High School at the start of the weekend, Inspector Lorna Henderson revealed that a total of 58 children were arrested last year, 52 of whom were charged with various crimes.

The crimes include murder, rape, robbery, break-in, lottery scamming, simple larceny, assault, and malicious destruction of property.

Henderson said poor parenting supervision is among the main contributors to the children's anti-social behaviour.

She said the Trelawny police have launched an evening school programme at the Falmouth All-Age School aimed at young people.
