Whitmore wanted more time with Under-20's |
|||||
![]() National Under-20 player Junior Flemming PAUL CLARKE, STAR Writer National Under-20 coach, Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, has lamented not having enough time with the players to bring them to a sufficiently decent level to compete at the CONCACAF Championship, which wraps up today in Montego Bay. The players played to a goal-less draw in their final encounter on Wednesday against Aruba and the disappointment was not lost on Whitmore. "It was hard to motivate the players for the game given the previous results we had, but to be honest, I would grade our performance in this championship four out of ten based on our attitude and performances," he said. "As is stated in previous interviews, I just think that we needed more time with the players and they needed more time with the coaching staff to at least put themselves in a position where we could have performed better," he added. The Jamaicans ended the championship on a lowly two points, one more than Aruba. They had drawn 2-2 with Trinidad and Tobago and lost games against Guatemala, Panama, and the United States. "This is just another disappointing result, another disappointing tournament for us; at least we should have gotten a victory against Aruba," lamented Whitmore.
