Maxwell MARC STAMP, STAR Writer FORMER national senior team football coach, the much-travelled, Geoffrey Maxwell, indicates that he could make a return to club duties soon. Maxwell, who has been around in local top flight football, says he has been approached by two Red Stripe Premier League clubs. He also added that three schools have shown interest in him to coach at the schoolboy level. "I have been contacted by two clubs from the premier league as well as 3-4 schools. The discussions are ongoing, as there is nothing final yet," the 67-year-old veteran football tactician told STAR Sports. Maxwell refused to disclose the identities of the interested parties. "I won't say who are interested but interest has been shown," he said. Maxwell served as head coach at Santos, Harbour View, Arnett Gardens, Waterhouse, Maverley/Hughenden, JDF, St George's United, and most recently at Humble Lion. He parted company with the Clarendon club in March 2014, after being there since December 2012. His most successful period was at Waterhouse where he guided the Drewsland-based club to their first national title in 1998. When quizzed whether he would return to Waterhouse for a third time as coach, Maxwell quickly responded: "I would be interested in returning to Waterhouse as I built that club. I know the ins and outs of the club." Looking at the Waterhouse club who are currently second in the RSPL on 35 points, nine behind leaders Arnett Gardens, Maxwell says if he is in charge Waterhouse would walk through the league. "If they were to ask me, I would not hesitate. The team has the players who can easily walk through and win the league title. However, it is about managing the egos of the big name players currently at the club. They certainly have the potential," he informed. Maxwell, also coached Hydel High to the Manning Cup final for the first time in 2012 where they lost to St George's College. He also parted ways with that institution in 2013. Before that he coached his alma mater Excelsior to the Manning Cup and Walker Cup titles in 1980. He also guided the Mountain View Avenue school to the Walker Cup in 1979. |
