Gang war leads to double killing |
|||||
![]() André Williams, STAR Writer Men from opposing gangs operating in and around the belt line area in Sharon district, Manchester, wreaked havoc on each other Monday night resulting in two fatalities, injuries and the recovery of an illegal firearm, while several arrests remain pending. Information reaching THE STAR is that investigators in Manchester have been feverishly probing the circumstances surrounding the series of events, which disrupted normality in the parish. According to the police, a linkage has been made in the recent murder of Steven 'Miguel' Codner, and another man who remains unidentified. Reports are that Codner was attacked and killed around 7 p.m. by armed men at his establishment, following which his home was set ablaze with his body lying inside. During a search of the area, our news team understands that another body was found lying in bushes. Execution style The police believe that the deceased was involved in Codner's shooting incident, and they theorise he got shot during the attack and was later dumped. When asked if Codner's death could be labelled execution style, Head of Manchester Police Division, Superintendent Melvin Brown, told our news team otherwise. He said: "Our investigation indicate that there may have been a shoot-out ... the body that was found on Brumalia Road may have been the work of Codners allies or the dead man's cronies." The superintendent commended his officers for their fast and evasive actions following reports of Codner's shooting, in which a firearm was found and four men taken into custody. THE weekend STAR also gathered that one of Codner's attackers, who was mistakenly burnt while the house was set ablaze, turned up at hospital to nurse injuries and is since being kept under police guard. "It appears that this individual got trapped inside the house, while it was being set ablaze," said Brown. The police have sought to bring normality back to these affected communities. |
