Cops put big dent in criminal network

Two persons suspected of stealing cover notes from a prominent insurance company were nabbed in a pre-dawn operation conducted by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) and the Fraud Squad.

They were assisted by members from the Mobile Reserve Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. During the pre-dawn operation, a large quantity of driver's licence applications, driver's licences, motor vehicle titles, fitness certificates as well as cover notes belonging to the said insurance company were seized.

These documents were found at the home of one of the persons who it is believed is the mastermind behind this fraudulent scheme, which has reportedly netted millions of dollars. At another location, items used in the production of motor vehicle insurance documents were recovered.

In relation to the recovery, director of investigations at MOCA, Senior Superintendent of police Cleon March, stated, "the recovery and seizure of these items represents a significant dent in a criminal network involved in the production of fraudulent motor vehicle insurance documents. MOCA and its partners are committed to dismantling all forms of major organised crime and corruption".

The arrested persons are scheduled to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys, following which it is expected that charges will be laid against them.
