Leighton Levy, Star Writer Christopher Martin is planning to soak soca fans with sweat this coming carnival season. The reggae crooner has penned and released his latest effort in collaboration with soca giant Machel Montano, a single called Soak, that is already finding its feet with more than 50,000 views on Youtube. "It's a song that I wrote and sent it to Machel Mantano and said, I would love for you to be on the track, and the rest is history," said Martin as he relaxed last week in the Green Room prior to his performance at the RJR Foundation's Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston. He believes the song is well on its way to becoming a hit. "The song was written last summer, dropped last Thursday, and had more than 20,000 views in a little over 24 hours. Based on all the comments, the traction is there already," he said. Soak came to him while he was in Trinidad last year enjoying carnival with his friends. "We were in a bus going to a party and the melody just came into my head and I recorded it on my phone and was playing with it from then," he said. Mantano, he said, took an immediate liking to it and has been doing the bulk of the work getting it out to the soca-loving public. "He is the one doing all the groundwork throughout the Trinidad region and the soca region for the song," Martin said, explaining that the song has also had a life of its own. In the meantime, Martin has been working hard promoting his other singles that have been catching on with his fan base both here and abroad. "The video for Stepping Razor is to be launched soon," he said. "My EP, which will lead into my album for VP records, is also coming soon. The first half of the year is already cemented." Besides, We A Di Vibe has also been getting good airplay.
