Confident j'ca take on Guyana in super50 semi

Damion Jacobs - File

Leg-spinner Damion Jacobs, Jamaica Franchise's leading wicket-taker at the on-going WICB NAGICO Insurance Super50, believes the team has what it takes to better Guyana Jaguars in semi-final action today.

The day and night matchup, to be played at Queen's Park in Trinidad and Tobago, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Jamaica time, will see both teams looking to secure a spot in Sunday's final at the same venue.

"We are quietly confident heading into the game," said Jacobs, who has thus far taken three for 24, one for 62, and two for 30.

"We won two of our three games convincingly, and gained bonus points, and during our loss we pushed a more experienced Trinidad to the limit.

"This has given us added confidence and self-belief that we can go all the way," he added.

Jamaica, with five of their front-line players who are in South Africa with the West Indies team, won their opening game against Leewards Hurricanes by nine wickets.

They then went down to Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by 17 runs, before rebounding on Tuesday with a nine-wicket stroll over West Indies Under-19s.

Good run

This allowed them to finish second in Group on 10 points, three less than first-place Trinidad.

Guyana, in the meanwhile, ended atop of Group A after beating Windward Islands Volcanoes and Barbados Pride in their first two encounters, and falling to Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners in their last.

Jacobs, who has been having a good run at the regional level since making his debut last season, in the meantime, said he is looking forward to the opportunity to bowl to Guyana for the first time.

"I haven't played against Guyana at the four-day or one-day level before, so I am really looking forward to my first time," he said.

"I have been bowling fairly well, and hitting good areas, so it is just for me to continue."

Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel and Combined Campuses and Colleges will meet each other in semi-final two tomorrow, also at Queen's Park.
