Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a man by the police on Tuesday.

Dead is Oshane Henry, a 21-year-old labourer of Job Lane, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 1 p.m., police personnel went into Job Lane in search of gunmen. Henry was shot while the police were reportedly challenged by him.

Some residents' account of the incident are different from that of the police. They claim Henry was killed under questionable circumstances.

"The man a hard-working smaddy. A coal him burn. Wi nuh believe him a gunman, and him just stop from work today, and now him dead," a resident said.

The police said the team was in the area when they were challenged by gunmen and Henry was shot. Since the shooting, some businesses are closing earlier than usual.

The police have since increased their presence in Job Lane, St John's Road and surrounding areas.

A police sergeant was also injured in the incident.
