Man on assault rap remanded

Launtia Cuff, Star Writer

Errol Grey was on Tuesday remanded in custody when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court for assault and wounding with intent.

The allegations are that sometime during the first week of January, Grey, who was living at a house which did not belong to him, was approached by a man whose family is said to own the property.

The man asked Grey who had given him permission to live at the house, and an argument developed. It is alleged that the man was grabbed by the neck and thrown to the ground. The complainant received injuries to his spine as a result.

It is further alleged that another man, who was next door visiting with the mother of his child, heard the commotion and made attempts to intervene in the dispute.

It is reported that Grey went inside returning with a knife. That man was cut in the belly exposing his intestines. The man was taken to hospital where he spent almost two weeks.

Grey was subsequently arrested and charged. He is set to reappear in court on February 19, when the matter is set for mention.
