There is 'No Get Away' from Babylon - Ikaine

Ikaine

Kushites Production reggae artiste Ikaine believes that the role of Rastafari is to oppose injustice wherever it exists.

This may be why Ikaine has gained a lot of traction with his song, No Get Away, which addresses the rising tide of police brutality in states all over the world, with specific references to the infamous shooting of 18-year-old Black American Michael Brown in August last year, in Ferguson, a suburb of St Louis, Missouri.

Brown was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, 28, a white Ferguson police officer. The disputed circumstances of the shooting and the resultant protests and civil unrest received considerable attention in the US and abroad.

"Michael Brown's death is part of a larger struggle of black people against a powerful and unfair system designed to keep down the black race, but we must never give up the struggle, no matter how bitter. Brown died innocently. Remember the Tivoli incursion, remember the Coral Gardens massacre, there is No Get Away from Babylon," the artiste, real name Leighton Campbell, said.

Known for his melodious voice and his powerful stage performances, Ikaine made a name for himself at community stage shows all over the Corporate Area. He has also made appearances at Dubwise and at the recently concluded Rebel Salute.

"Kushites Production will be releasing an EP in February and there are plans for a tour of Europe this year. I am not doing this for the money, I want to express my feelings to get my repatriation message across and to share my repatriation energy with the world," he said.
