Jesse Royal gets Chronixx boost |
|||||
![]() ![]() CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer Jesse Royal's single 'Modern Day Judas' is his first song to receive more than one million views on YouTube.com, surpassing his previous popular recording, 'This Morning', which received more than 500,000 views. According to the fast-rising reggae act, Chronixx's performance of the song on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show added to its sales and popularity. Traditionall dancehall artistes have ridiculed each other for singing each other's songs during performances, unlike soca artistes who do the same thing without backlash. Jesse Royal says unity in the music industry will only see all artistes benefiting from the returns. He also says the new generation of reggae artistes are on a mission to facilitate togetherness, within the best interest of the music industry. "It is not for you alone, and one hand wash the other. As the new set of youth, we know that there is a bigger picture, and it's not for one man. If every man is for themselves, then how can we truly provide wealth?" he reasoned. The artiste said Chronixx's decision to perform the song was spontaneous. "It was never planned and I didn't expect it, but unity is our driving force, and that is what is carrying us. When I am in Europe, I always put Here Comes Trouble and Reverence in my set, and who knows us, knows that's how we do it. Whereever the vibes take us, that's what we sing because this is our thing, yu nuh?. I got some more views and some more sales with that endorsement from Chronixx, and whatever the youths do in unity, you will have a good result," he told The STAR. Jesse Royal was booked for Rebel Salute and will leave the island in the next two weeks for a performance in the US east coast. He is also expected to perform at Marley Fest. "An album is in the works right now but we are currently promoting my mixtape Royally Speaking, with Major Lazer, because the downloads have been favourable," he said. |
