JPS shareholder Marubeni Corporation has donated J$500,000 to the Grace- Kennedy and Staff Community Development Foundation's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centre. The donation was made through the JPS Foundation, in keeping with the Foundation's focus on development projects in energy, science and technology. The STEM Centre is the Grace-Kennedy and Staff Community Develop-ment Foundation's latest venture, being implemented in association with the USAID, ICD Limited, Ministry of Education, and other partners. The centre incorporates traditional science labs, robotics, a computer centre for projects, a 3-D printer, and interactive whiteboard facilities for enhancing visual learning. In addition, it provides access to a major source of interactive science and technology material. Although the STEM Centre serves primarily students in downtown Kingston, it can be accessed by students from across the Corporate Area. In making the presentation at the STEM Centre recently, JPS President and CEO Kelly Tomblin said: "This learning centre is an excellent resource for our young people to explore opportunities in the STEM sectors. Marubeni fully supports educational projects such as our JPS Foundation Model Schools Project and is very pleased to contribute to this programme. We look forward to strengthening this partnership." |
