Woman on fraud rap to face court January 27

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James woman who reportedly fleeced J$140,000 from her employer and then changed company records to hide the deed, will have her case mentioned in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on January 27.

Kimberly Lewis is charged with larceny as a servant and false declaration of accounts. She pleaded not guilty to both charges when she came to court last Thursday.

The allegations are that in August 2014, Lewis - who at the time was employed to Cornwall Communication Limited, in Montego Bay - took $140,000 from the company, and then falsified the company's computer software to reflect an incorrect total on the company's balance sheet.

On Thursday, the court was told that certain information would have to be retrieved from a computer belonging to Lewis' former employer, in order to complete the prosecution's case file.

Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie subsequently set the case for mention on January 27.
