Man accused of punching woman in mouth gets off |

|
A man accused of punching his girlfriend in the mouth had his matter admonished and discharged when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday after the complainant asked that the case be dismissed. Pleading not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm was 31-year-old Keldon Grant of a Kingston address. According to reports, on December 17, at around 9:15 p.m., the complainant and the accused had a dispute in the downtown Kingston area, after the accused took the complainant's phone and asked her about text messages she was receiving. When she left the vehicle and returned shortly afterwards asking the accused for her phone, an argument developed and the accused punched the 24-year-old complainant in her mouth, causing the upper lip to bleed. After he punched her, the complainant said she used an iron to hit the accused and he reportedly retaliated and used the same iron to hit her on the foot, causing a cut. After the allegations were read, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey prodded the accused, asking him if he commited the acts outlined in the allegations, to which he later admitted. However, the complainant, requested the case be dropped. The Senior Magistrate granted her request and no evidence was offered against Grant. he was discharged. |
