God brought me back to life

Wellesley Alonzo Blair

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Name: Wellesley Alonzo Blair

Church: New Testament Church of God, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and parts of the northern Caribbean.

Position: Administrative bishop.

How long have you been saved? I have been saved for 55 years.

When did you get your conviction? I grew up in a pastor's house, but that did not bring the conviction. I got saved on the 4th of April, 1958, at 9:30 p.m. at the Maryland New Testament Church of God in Hanover. I surrendered my life to God because I knew that was the right thing to do.

What has been your most challenging moment since getting saved? The challenging moments would have been the times when people said things about me which were not true. They would fight you to the ground. However, those are only stepping stones. They are noticed afterwards. When one plants a field of cane, and you want them to grow fast, you fertilise them. So persecution is like the fertiliser for me.

What has been your most miraculous moment since getting saved? To be saved is a miracle. I think the most miraculous moment of my life took place on the 18th of March, 2008. I was in the hospital in Orlando, Florida, when I was declared dead, but God brought me back to life; miraculously.

Message to christians: Hold on to God's unchanging hands. Look to God, don't look to man. Build your hopes on things eternal, not on temporal things. The temporal things will fade away but the spiritual things will remain forever.

Message to non-christians: Seek ye the Lord now. Come to him now; and the Bible says, 'while it is yet day'. The Bible also states that when you come to Him, He will forgive you of your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. We do not have time to play. Somebody is saying, now, 'I will get saved when I am much older', but I want to tell you that the babies are dying. There is no age barrier for death.

Favourite Bible scripture: Isaiah 54: 17

Line from favourite song:One more valley, one more hill.
