A man accused of assaulting a woman and later stabbing her teenage nephew was remanded when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful wounding, and malicious destruction of property is 19-year-old Leon Salesman.

Allegations are that on the day of the assault of the female complainant, the accused man is alleged to have punched her all over her body causing injuries and pain.

On November 18, it is believed that Salesman accosted the 15-year-old who was on his way from grocery shopping, using a knife to stab him in the centre of his chest.

The accused man ran off thereafter. His aunt later assisted him in filing a report to the police. The court heard that the teenager spent three days in hospital as a result of the stabbing.

Salesman was arrested and charged some time in December. It is alleged that Salesman reportedly had a long-standing dispute with the complainant's family.

"Any reason why you shouldn't go to prison for it, Mr Salesman?" inquired Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

Salesman remained mum and outwardly emotionless as the senior RM awaited a response. The accused man was ordered further remanded until today when he is to reappear.

A fingerprint order was also made against him.
