PASTOR CHARGED WITH RAPE

Allegedly molested minor during counselling session

Detectives attached to the St Thomas police have rearrested a pastor accused of sexual offences after questioning a councillor late Tuesday night.

Deputy Superintendent Charmaine Shand confirmed that the councillor was taken into custody and questioned in the presence of his attorney after it was determined that he had information pertaining to the investigation. He was released on Wednesday.

The police have not released the name of the councillor and no charges have been laid against him.

The pastor involved in the case was arrested last year and charged with sexually assaulting a minor in 2012, while he was offering counselling. He was charged with rape, grievous sexual assault and sexual grooming.

Shand indicated that a file will be sent to the director of public prosecutions for a ruling on the matter.
